So last Thursday was the Bleet Up! I was super excited to go to my first 21+ free event, since I’d had to miss out on a whole lot of badass events due to not being 21 yet.
Believe it or not, this was the best photo we got out of the outfit photos. That whole natural light vs. flash thing makes a big difference. Anyways, I was wearing my Fluevog Sigourneys, secondhand rose ring & necklace, the KCR top from Ross, and a DIY’d skirt. The jury’s still out on the skirt, I can’t decide if I like it or if it looks like swiss cheese made from fabric, but I wore it anyways.
I think more people showed up at the Bleet Up than were expected; we waited in line for 30-45 minutes, much of it without the line moving at all (despite the fact that all the promo material said doors at 8:30, and we got there at 8:45-9:00). But we happened to be in line right behind Ben of Austin Bloggy Limits, who is a super friendly individual. We all chatted about moving to Austin (he’s a transplant from Maine! holy shit, and I thought our move was long) and SXSW, which I’m so ridiculously excited for. I’m already plotting ways to sneak into panels because there’s only about three I want to see, and that’s totally not worth the $300+ interactive ticket.
At any rate, I’ve never had the absolute joy of experiencing it before, but just FYI: standing for long periods of time in heels on a hill sucks. I hate being that girl tottering around in heels but I kept grabbing on to Matt’s sleeve to stay steady (erm, it was a steep hill?).
Once we got in though, the fun started! I found Indiana and said hi, and while we were talking Maureen came up and introduced herself – apparently she’s new in town too! I assured her that with how friendly everyone is, she’s sure to make friends fast. I love Austin!
We had Matt &…Mike, I think (sorry, Indiana, I forgot your hub’s name!) standing side by side with cameras, so that’s why Maureen is looking off into the distance. It was in fact, not the distance she was looking into, and just a different camera! Notice that even wearing 3-3.5″ heels, I’m almost a full head shorter than Indiana.
Fun fact: it seemed to me that everyone there was either very short (like, my height or shorter) or very tall with few people in between. But that was probably just me.
We didn’t stay super long because Matt had to get up early & go to work the next morning; I think we left around 11. It was a good time and I really hope the Bleet Ups do become a regular thing, as I think Tolley mentioned they might – it would be fun to see the same people regularly and develop a local blogging community. Which there probably already is, actually, and I just don’t know any of them. So, anyways, give me a chance to meet the local bloggers & weasel into their midst!
I had a lot of fun & it was so nice to see how friendly everyone here is (again. like I didn’t already know that.). Things like this just make me more and more sure we made the right choice in moving to Austin.
