1/9/2010 – DIY dress (it’s two t-shirts, sewn together at the neck, that I also dyed…rather unevenly, as you can see), Fluevog engineer boots, and Hyde belt.
If you attempt a similar DIY’d dress, I would suggest getting a size larger than you usually wear in men’s shirts – I didn’t want it to be too big, so I got a medium, and I think I’d have been better off with a large, as it fits a bit funny. It looks godawful without a belt, but I’ve easily solved that problem by just always wearing it with a belt! And the fact that the cowl doubles as a hood has come in handy several times when caught unawares by rain.
You can see the very beginnings of our steampunk living room here; we still have a long way to go! We need to get some sort of chair or a loveseat, or probably both, and figure out a way to cover up the TV in a suitable fashion (I’m thinking large theatre-type curtains), and we’ve got some things we want to have printed & then hang on the walls. It’ll be fun!
We also need to find a computer desk – we’ve got the desktop on a sewing machine table right now, and can’t move it until we get a wireless card for it, since it’s currently hooked up directly to the router. We saw some desks on clearance at Office Max for a ridiculously low price ($13 down from $50, I think it was?) and we’re going back to get one; they’re intended to be children’s desks I think, but I’m so short I can easily sit at it. No drawers, but I just want something to put my laptop on or write at. I’m crazy excited to have a desk, I always just type from the recliner. Next up: a big cushy roller-chair!
Are you working on any home decor projects right now? How’s it turning out?
(the title is from Dollhouse, one of the funnier moments. We finished season one week before last, and damn, but that last episode – the one that didn’t air, Epitaph One – is depressing as hell. It makes me not want to watch the second season, knowing that’s where it’s going. What a sad vision of the future.)
