Daily Outfit 2/5/10
Can you see the pain on my face, people? Yeah. I went out for dinner with Amanda and Indiana, thinking that I didn’t feel too hot and that I’d probably bail before the Fashion Freakout, and then changed my mind. Lesson learned: never wear anything but the most comfortable heels when there is even the slightest chance you’ll end up standing for 2-3 hours. Ouch.
The deets:
Seychelles boots (TJ Maxx…or maybe Ross), Target pencil skirt, Hyde belt (secondhand), Thakoon for Target top (Buffalo Exchange), Kate Landy purse (BX), secondhand vintage fur & velvet shrug, eBay’d GlovedUp gloves, secondhand flapper necklace, DIY’d wire-wrapped fossil shell necklace.
Close up of the necklace:

Unfortunately it’s kind of hard to get a good picture of. I like the fact that it just looks like some random-ass rock until you get a good look at it.
Anyways. The Fashion Freakout was awesome. My feet were sore until Monday, but it was totally worth it! Check it out:
This lady had some AMAZING ink. I wish I knew where she got it at! (If all goes well, I’m hoping to get some more with my tax refund – checking out places right now.)
She was totally my favorite model. She was WORKING IT. All of the models were pretty fabulous though – you could tell they were all having a good time. None of this “I’m super hot and wearing fabulous clothes but my life SUCKS so I will pout” crap you see in the big runways!
Big hair was everywhere, it made me very jealous. I’ve been trying to figure out some way to get my very fine hair to do the crazy 80′s-punk teased ‘do of my dreams, but it’s not really cooperating. Going to try this stuff next.
Everybody else was all about the cowboy (who I don’t have pictures of – my camera died unexpectedly, stupid batteries), but I thought this guy was a dead ringer for Eric from True Blood. AKA sexay. (and hellooo, eye patch? hawt.)
Those aren’t all of my photos, but I didn’t want to inundate you non-Austinites & bore ya to death. Check out my flickr set for more, and then there’s Indiana, Amanda, and Tolly’s photos too! Bonus points for Amanda, who drew a lovely diagram of our location relative to the runway. And Indiana has a video. You can see more of sexy eyepatch guy. Totally worth watching! It was a pretty awesome time, no lie.
Buffalo Exchange’s sets were my favorite. Unfortunately, I totally didn’t organize my photos so I have no idea which sets these are from. I think most are BX though. New Bohemia and Prototype’s stuff was great too; BX was just a little more of what I think of as runway. I mean, if I’m going to a fashion show, I want to see some crazy shit go down. You know?
Which reminds me, it’s been almost two weeks since I went to Buffalo Exchange. Probably time to drag in the rest of my stuff and sell some more, since it’s closer to spring now!

I love your outfit and how you styled it! I especially love those boots. Looks like Fashion Freakout was a lot of fun and the models look like they are having a total blast and working it!

OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!
That looks like it was an amazing good time. And the boots, the BOOTS!! Kick ass.
This looks like so much fun. I love big hair! It used to be my default going out ‘do (years ago when my hair was about your length) – have you tried doing the mousse and blowdry trick? Always worked wonders for me.
On a hair-related note, what do you use for your color (if you don’t mind divulging) – my hairdresser and I use Special Effects for my purple/pink but find that it washes out of the ends/back of my hair so quickly that it’s almost not worth using. Manic Panic has also been a bust – any helpful hints on keeping color in will be greatly appreciated. (Yours looks so fresh in each post).
Thanks Sheena & Alicia! I’ll like the boots a lot more after I get some Dr. Scholl’s to fix ‘em up for my feetsies some!
Alli – I’ve used mousse and blowdrying before, but it tends to completely kill my curl for some reason and the mousse REALLY drys out my hair. : / That’s the problem I keep running in to is that most of the big hair methods are somewhat damaging, and I’m really careful about what I do to my hair because of the color treating.
Re: color – I use Special Effects, but I’ve found their colors very very hit or miss for me. Atomic Pink lasts for ages on everyone else (I’ve seen it last six months on my friends), but it fades within a month or so with me. The purple is a 50/50 mix of Pimpin’ Purple and Deep Purple, and it bleeds TERRIBLY for the first two weeks or so, but it sticks fairly well. I leave it on for probably 2-3 hours before washing it out, and I only shampoo my hair every 3 days or so (I control greasies with baby powder, and my hair doesn’t really get greasy until the third day anyways). Let me know if there’s anything else you need to know!
I didn’t think they’d make a difference, but insoles are a god-send. Those boots look like they’d kill me otherwise. (Although, they are quite hot.)
Awesome – thanks so much for the hair tip. When I was all over purple I’d only wash once a week and just spritz and blowdry the rest of the time. I’m trying to keep it to 3 times a week max now but having platinum on top, the grease starts to show. I did a mix of purple, pink, and blue this last time for a richer purple – next time I’m going to do it myself and as you suggested, leave it for a few hours. I’ve also heard that rinsing with cider-vinegar the first few washes can keep color in.
Hey sweety this is my 3rd attempt at leaving a comment here
dunno but my comment times out.
Anyway, I wanted to tell you that you look gorgeous and I love that little fur shrug, the boots are killer
The show looks fun and cute, BTW I always carry flats now since my feet have been abused with heels over the yrs so I have to change into flats after events.
Hope all is well with you, much love always,
