What do YOU want to see here?

I’m going to be completely honest with you guys. I’m struggling with the direction of Wicked Whimsy, pretty hardcore – I’m a little burnt out on style and fashion related writing, although I’m still interested in it personally…I just feel like I have nothing interesting to say about it right now. But I’m not sure I want to entirely change the content of the blog, just because I feel like I’d be cheating everyone who signed up for a mostly fashion and personal style blog!

I feel like WW has suffered, probably pretty obviously, because I don’t know what to write about or what you want to read. Some of the topics I’ve considered is more posts on cultural appropriation, things in the media (television and comics/novels), business, religion, spirituality, and more – but I know some of these are hot button issues, which means I could very well get twitchy about writing them, let alone having responses to them. So please, if you would in the comments, let me know what it is you want to read about right now or would like to see more posts on. If for some reason you don’t want to leave a comment, you can fill out an anonymous survey here. I very much appreciate your input as a reader – thank you so much!

Technical Difficulties

For some reason, the ‘blog’ page and the most recent post (the shoe one, not sure if this one will come up that way) are appearing very wonkily. Sorry for the inconvenience, working it out as fast as I can!

Requiescat In Pace

Gala said it better than I…it was the first news I read this morning. Sad stuff.

Drumroll, please! Annoucing…

My latest project!

After the crappy experience I had with the counterfeit Melissa shoes, and the frustration of trying to find solid information online, I felt like I had to do something so that others wouldn’t have the same experience. I decided to try and make a resource that had information on all different kinds of counterfeit shoes.

Hence, ShoeFraud. My goal with this project is to try and get all the information on counterfeit shoes I can find, in one place. As far as I know right now, there isn’t a comprehensive resource on counterfeit shoes; lots of stuff on handbags, but not for shoes. I’m trying to fix that.

There isn’t a lot up right now, but I’ll be emailing or calling brands (starting today!) to get information about whether their shoes are being counterfeited and if so, how to tell. In the meantime, all I ask is that if you like the idea of ShoeFraud, please help me spread the word! As always, thanks for your support.

Wicked Whimsy is now live!

This calls for confetti & cupcakes! Wicked Whimsy is now live. If you could please update your bookmarks, links, & RSS feeds, I would really appreciate it!

Things might be a bit wonky around the site as I fiddle with different aspects of the layout over the next few days, so please bear with me. As I’m changing the site over, I’m rethinking the direction and focus of it as well, so I’ll probably be updating the home and about page. I don’t imagine there will be too much of a difference in content, though – I’m just refining things & trying to inject a little more “me” into this place.

Anyways, welcome to the new site!

(the thought occurs to me that I should have posted something like this before the switch-over…I hope this shows up in your feed-reader, eep!)

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween/Samhain/Dia de los Muertos! I hope you all have a fabulous one. I’m getting ready to watch Coraline for last minute costume inspiration, and tonight we’re going to our neighbor’s little shindig and then might walk around downtown to see the sights. Maybe when we get home we’ll watch Ghostbusters. Then tomorrow, there’s a Dia de los Muertos celebration that I’m pretty psyched about too! I hope you have a good one!

And these are priced to sell, as after the weekend in Missouri we’re a bit…what’s that British word? skint, haha. There’s a gorgeous 50′s dress I need to list as well, but I wasn’t happy with the photos we’d got (had to have my neighbor & her daughter model things that were too small for me!) so I’m going to take more and list it later. & of course, thanks for looking!

Decline Designs: State of the Blog

So, it’s been a little over a year since I started writing here. I’ve been taking stock things over the last month or so and I thought a post about it was in order!

When I started the website, I really intended it to be a face for my online store. Obviously, things have changed since then. I’m having much better luck financially with seamstress work than than I ever did selling, and in the event that I do get back into designing & selling lines of pre-made items (which, admittedly, will probably happen – I’ve been fostering a burning desire to learn more about millinery for over a year now), I’m not sure how much effort I’ll put into my online store, since the online handmade marketplace is full of nasty things like underselling. There’s a good chance I’ll put more effort into the local market than online, at least at first. Anyways! Point being, I’ve been blogging off and on since I was 13 or so. When putting up the site, I thought “You know – I miss blogging! I’ll definitely set up a blog on here.” And that was that.

In between then and now, I’ve taken down the store and the blog has become the main focus. There are other things (like the vintage shop – which, by the way, will be re-stocked after this weekend; picking up fall/winter items in Missouri), but they’re side projects. I had forgotten how much I loved writing when I started this and very quickly remembered!

Now more to the point of the post: when naming the blog, I named it for the clothing & accessories I was making. Since that’s not the main focus any more, I don’t feel like the name fits. I’ve been waffling over this for probably 4-6 months  and finally decided that I should change the name of the blog. Looking back now, I wish I’d changed it when I had started to think about it, and I’d rather do it now at one year than in two or three.

This isn’t going to happen immediately, I haven’t even decided on a new name yet (although Wicked Whimsy or Wicked & Whimsical are both strong contenders, I’d appreciate any thoughts!). I just thought I’d give you guys a heads up that a re-naming & redesign is coming soon! I’ll keep the old domain name and just have it forward to the new one; I’ve already paid for another year of it, so I might as well. When the change comes, I’d appreciate it if you would update your links, bookmarks, and RSS readers ASAP!

Aside from that, I’m so glad I’m past the one year mark now! And that I have all of you lovely people here with me. Your comments & support mean so much, they make my heart happy!

Enough sappy for this post. Onward!

As of this post being published, we’re on the road to Missouri. Wish us luck getting through Dallas unscathed. I hope you all have an amazing weekend!

New items in the shop!

70s/80s Floral Day Dress M/L Grunge

70's/80's Floral Day Dress M/L Grunge

Lovely 70′s floral day dress, tank top straps, 100% rayon. The straps have been taken in at the shoulder, as shown in picture. In lovely condition, no flaws, zips up the back. Great dress for the last days of summer – cool and breezy on its own, but will transition nicely to fall. Can’t you just see it with a leather jacket, tights, and some ankle boots? Rowrrr!

70s Lemon Yellow Draped Dress Medium

70's Lemon Yellow Draped Dress Medium

I love this dress! I listed it under evening dresses, but it could easily be dressed up or down. Gorgeous yellow color with very flattering, almost capelet-esque draping across the front and back. Drawstrings and lace at the shoulders, as shown, and it zips up the back. The tag that was barely attached (that I took off, because it got caught in the zipper) said “dry clean only”, but I think this could probably be handwashed as well. The material isn’t marked, but it feels like either polyester or some kind of poly-blend – it’s very light and breathable. Absolutely wonderful condition!

60s/70s Mod Navy Blue/White Patterned Dress L

60's/70's Mod Navy Blue/White Patterned Dress L

Lovely 60′s dress with a scoop neck and a navy blue and white pattern. No flaws, a tag is still attached that says “Fries and Schuele – Cleveland”, and handwriting on the back has a date of 1972. Polyester fabric. The dress is a little long, but I left it that way because I didn’t want to hem it too short for any taller girls out there to enjoy it!

And don’t forget, the items I listed last week are ending tomorrow, so get your bids in now!
